Welcome to the Ant Hill

Welcome to the Ant Hill

Thursday, January 30, 2014

We are ending the week on a high note with the trip to the SC State Museum to see the King Tut Exhibit. Here are some things to note:

  • We will leave school at 8:00.
  • Students, you do not need backpacks. You will need to bring just a pencil, clipboard, and your lunch.
  • Electronics are allowed for the ride to Columbia and back, but must be left in the vehicles. (Except fro cell phones and cameras) Note that all electronics are the sole responsibility of the student to keep up with.
  • Chaperons and students will meet upstairs in the classroom by 7:50. If you have a driving/riding preference, please e-me ASAP.
  • Please bring a sack lunch with a drink, we have a section of tables reserved for lunch from 11:00-11:30.
  • Be advised that the museum is currently undergoing some construction. Drivers: pull into the left side of the museum, and park in the parking garage (no cost). You will see signs taking you to the side entrance. Come into the first set of the doors and gather in Atrium until all of our group has arrived.
  • We will leave the museum at 12:30. If you have no extra students riding with you, you may leave and go home, rather than returning to the school. If you have other students riding with you, please return to the school and STAY WITH THE STUDENTS until you personally pass them off to me. Do not leave any student unattended.
  • There is a gift shop, for which you may bring shopping money.
  • We will make a brief stop at Krispy Kreme in Columbia before heading back. Kiddos, bring your report card! You get a free doughnut for each "A" you made for second quarter! You may bring money for additional purchases.
I am sure that I have forgotten SOMETHING, so please e-me if you think of anything that needs to be added to the information that I have given you! Be blessed, keep warm, and enjoy your last "Ice Day" with your kiddos! Love, Lisa

My daughter took this of Lady Grey and me during our walk to the park this morning.

Greetings from the warm home of the Harrells! I just received an e-mail that school WILL BE CLOSED tomorrow (Thursday) due to icy roads. We will reschedule Diamond Del and I will let you know that date when I do. I will post a field trip update tomorrow for Friday's trip to the museum.

In light of all of the ice and cancellations, all tests, quizzes, and homework are officially cancelled for this week! We will start over on Monday! Enjoy your time off cuddling with your children and making memories!

I added several grades from the children's Science Notebooks today. These are all things that are in their Science Notebooks, none will be sheets to look for in the Signed Paper packets.

Thank you to Cole's mom, Tracy, for filling in as the "Filing Fairy" while Heather adjusts to life with Baby Emma Grace!

Several students are coming to class without paper, glue sticks, pencils, etc. These are supplies that they need to replenish, should they be out. I have these supplies available in the General Store, as well. I just hate wasting class time while we wait on students to borrow from friends.

The SC Academy of Science is sponsoring its annual MESAS mail-in contest. I have offered this opportunity to my students for the past several years. This is a research-based science and history project. The cost to enter is $5 and I can send home details, upon request. I will replace the lowest Third Quarter test or quiz grade in science or history with a 100, if your child participates.

Students will earn a participation grade in Reading this Semester. They will start each quarter with a 100, but will lose three points each time they are called on for reading, if they are not keeping up.

Good Afternoon!
I put off announcing this, because I really didn't know what to say. But, Tuesday morning I had a "mini stroke" while at school. The EMTs on the ambulance checked me out and I didn't have any heart issues, but they did make me go the the ER because I had dangerously high blood pressure. I am now taking a medication and we are working to get it down. At this time, I would simply appreciate your prayers!

Mrs. Butler was able to secure a Mobile Mining Museum to come to school for the 4th and 5th graders on January 30th. The cost will be $10. Permission forms will go home Tuesday. I know it is fast notice, but I need the $$payment$$ ASAP! Thanks so much!!

Report Cards went home today! Be sure to sign and return envelopes on Tuesday.

The first grades have been entered on Renweb for the Third Quarter and Signed Papers with Third Quarter work will go home on Tuesday. Several more sets of grades will be entered this weekend, as well.

Because of the short week, there will be no Spelling Test, CE Quiz, or MV Quiz next week. The only test is the Chapter 4 Science Test that will be on Wednesday. I had originally told the kids it was Tuesday, but had forgotten Monday was a holiday.

Enjoy your extra time off!
Love, Lisa
